Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakkatt

Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakkatt was born in Uzhavoor in Kottayam district of Kerala on February 27, 1953. He was ordained priest on 27 December 1978. He joined the Vallombrasan Benedictine Monastery and made the final profession on 5 December 1998. He secured graduation in Science, BEd., and Master's in Sociology. Later he completed his doctorate in Canon Law from Pontifical Oriental Institute, Rome. He was nominated Bishop of Holler and appointed Auxiliary bishop of Kottayam on December 28, 1998. He was consecrated on 6 January 1999. Pope John Paul II appointed Mar Mathew Moolakkatt as Co-adjutor Bishop of the eparchy of Kottayam on August 15, 2003. He is the member of CBCI Commission for Justice, Peace and Development, KCBC Commission for Youth, member of the permanent Synod of the Syro Malabar Church and also a member of the Liturgical Commission. He also serves as the Chairman of the Synodal Commission for of St. Thomas Apostolic Seminary, Vadavathoor.
