Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhath

Archbishop Andrews Thazhath was born at Pudukkad, Trichur on Dec. 13, 1951. He was ordained a priest at Nandhikkara for the Eparchy of Trichur on March 14, 1977 and was nominated Auxiliary Bishop of the Archeparchy of Trichur and titular Bishop of Aptuca on March 19, 2004 by Pope Jon Paul II. He was ordained bishop on May 1, 2004 at Lourde's Metropolitan Cathedral, Trichur. He was nominated Metropolitan Archbishop of Trichur succeeding Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy on Jan. 22, 2007 and was installed to the office on March 18, 2007 by Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil, Head of Syro-Malabar Church. He is the President of the Oriental Canon Law Society of India. He holds Bachelor's degree in Theology (B.D.) from Aluva and Doctor's degree in the Eastern Canon Law (DOCL) from the Pontifical Oriental Institute, Rome.
