Bishop Arulappan Amalraj was born on Dec. 4, 1953, in Coonoor. He was ordained a priest on Dec. 26, 1980, and appointed Bishop of Ootacamund on June 30, 2006. His episcopal ordination was on Aug. 9, 2006. He was installed on Aug. 9, 2006. He was the parish priest of Coonoor parish before his appointment as the diocesan prelate.
