Bishop Antony Devotta was born on June 30, 1943, in Santhome in Chennai (formerly called Madras). He was ordained a priest on Aug. 27, 1971. He was appointed bishop on Dec. 12, 2000, and installed on Jan. 28, 2001. He was the vicar general of Madras-Mylapore archdiocese before becoming Bishop of Tiruchirapalli. He is chairperson of the Commission for Social Communication of the Tamil Nadu Bishops' Council. He is also the chairperson for the Catechetics Commission of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (Latin rite).
