Bishop James Kazuo Koda was born on March 11, 1955, in Setagaya, Tokyo. He was ordained a priest on March 3, 1985. Pope John Paul II appointed him Auxiliary Bishop of Tokyo on Nov. 29, 2004. He was ordained bishop on Feb. 19, 2005.
