Bishop Joseph Mingshu Li

Bishop Joseph Li Mingshu was born in December 1924. He is a native of Lijia village, Pangjia town, Boxing county in Shandong. He finished his studies at Puide Secondary School in Zhoucun diocese and Zhoucun Minor Seminary respectively. Between 1943 and 1949, he firstly studied at the major seminary in Jinan, provincial capital of Shandong, and later in Wuhai, Hubei province. He was ordained a priest on April 11, 1949 at the Cathedral of Wuhan city in Hubei.
He preached in Shaoguan diocese in Guangdong province and also taught primary and secondary students between 1949 and 1953. From 1978 to 1986, he taught at a teacher's training school in Boxing county, Shandong and he also was an English teacher at a secondary school. He was the deputy dean of Shandong Holy Spirit Seminary from 1986 to 1994. After that, he was transferred to be the diocesan administrator of Qingdao Diocese. On Aug. 13, 2000, he was ordained Bishop of Qingdao with Vatican-approval. From 2000 to 2005, Bishop Li was also the executive deputy rector and deputy director of the National Seminary in Beijing.
