Bishop Joseph Chi Linh Nguyen

Bishop Joseph Nguyen Chi Linh was born on Nov. 22, 1949 at Ba Lang parish in Thanh Hoa province. After he was accompanied by his family to move to the south in the 1954 exodus, he studied philosophy and theology at local seminaries in Hue, Nha Trang and Da Lat in 1962-1977. In 1977, when he left the Pius X Pontifical Institute, he returned to his family in Nha Trang diocese and did many jobs for a living until he was ordained a priest on Dec. 20, 1992. Father Linh furthered his studies at Institut Catholique de Paris in France in 1995-2003 and obtained a doctorate in philosophy. After he returned to Vietnam, he taught at the Stella Maris Major Seminary in Nha Trang. Father Linh was named bishop of the northern Thanh Hoa diocese on June 12, 2004 and his episcopal ordination was on Aug. 4, that year.

He is able to speak English, French and Latin except his native language.

Vietnamese bishop joyful to lead, evangelize new flock Bishop Nguyen was appointed My Tho's bishop on July 26. He was ordained a priest of the Ho Chi Minh City archdiocese in 1980, and in 2008 became an auxiliary bishop there.
