Appointment of the Bishop of Hakha

Father Lucius Hre Kung studied Philosophy and Theology at the National Major Seminary, first in Mandalay and then in Yangon. He was ordained a priest on February 23, 1989, in the Diocese of Hakha.

Pope Francis last Saturday appointed Father Lucius Hre Kung as Bishop of the Diocese of Hakha. He is Vicar-General and Parish Priest of the Cathedral of Hakha.

Hre Kung was born on February 4, 1959 in Hnaring in the Diocese of Hakha. After primary school, he attended the minor Seminary in Mandalay. He studied Philosophy and Theology at the National Major Seminary, first in Mandalay and then in Yangon.

He was ordained a priest on February 23, 1989, in the Diocese of Hakha. He served the parishes in Tedim, Hnaring, Forania in Hakha; since 2006, he is the Pastor of the Cathedral and since 2010, the Vicar General.
