Cardinal Tagle hopes for a path of dialogue in Zamboanga crisis

Manila Archbishop Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle has said that he hoped a negotiable solution would be achieved through dialogue to end the crisis in Zamboanga.

In a meeting organized by the Catholic Civilization magazine in Rome last week Cardinal Tagle said, “We join our voices to the bishops of Mindanao in asking for and building peace in the southern Philippines.”

“The situation in Mindanao is complex and delicate. The government has signed an agreement with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front rebel group, but another group, the Moro National Liberation Front, has rebelled and taken up arms. However, we cannot accept the destruction of property, displacement and suffering of civilians, and any form of violence. The way to resolve any dispute is dialogue. The church will continue to work for peace, which is the desire of the Filipino people,” Cardinal Tagle said.
