Islamists threaten to burn Christian colony in Sheikhpura

A Christian Colony of 300 to 400 families in Sheikpura of Punjab Province, Gloria Colony, is facing threats from Muslim extremist groups. A large number of Christians in Gloria Colony have successful businesses. This has attracted hostility from Muslim extremist groups.

One of the Christian families was targeted by the extremists last month. Salem Masih’s family has been in the catering business for many years. On August 13, some members of a Muslim extremist group burned Saleem Masih’s warehouse. Police nabbed the arsonists in a few days but Masih’s house was attacked on September 9.

A group of people entered the house with weapons, started beating the family and fired on them. Masih’s family suffered severe injuries in the attack. The attackers threatened to burn the colony, following which several families have fled their homes.

More than 50 houses were destroyed and hundreds were left homeless after a Muslim mob attacked Joseph Colony last year, on the pretext that one of its residents had committed blasphemy.
