In a bid to raise funds for the formation of future priests, the Philippine province of the Society of Jesus is set to hold benefit concerts on August 23 and 31at Leong Hall inside the Ateneo de Manila University campus.

The event headed by Jesuit composer Father Arnel Aquino will see the special participation of Cardinal Luís Antonio G. Tagle of Manila.

Titled Himig Heswita Sings for San Jose, the concert proceeds will go to the San José Major Seminary’s endowment fund, and in supporting its important work of training and forming the young priests who will eventually run parishes and may someday play key roles in the Philippine Church.

As traditional fund sources for seminaries have been drying up alarmingly, it required more creative means of fund generation. The concert conducted by the Ateneo-based Jesuit Music Ministry, publishers of liturgical music in Philippines, is an initiative towards this.

For over 400 years, San José Major Seminary has formed hundreds of Filipino priests for ministry in the dioceses all over the Philippines.

This diocesan seminary aims at forming men of virtue, learning, spirit, and service—agents of renewal of the Church and society in the Philippines.

Some of the seminary’s more distinguished alumni include Cardinal Tagle, Cardinal Gaudencio B. Rosales and Archbishop Orlando B. Cardinal Quevedo of Cotabato.
