Over 10,000 faithful, 32 bishops, 200 priests and hundreds of religious attended the Episcopal Consecration of Bishop Yohanes Harun Yuwono of Tanjungkarangat Xaverian School in Bandar Lampung of the Sumatra Island last Thursday.

The new bishop had grown up in a simple environment among his Christian and Muslim relatives and the simplicity was reflected in the ordination.

Bishop Yuwono has a doctorate in Islamic studies from Rome's Pontifical Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies. He has served as rector at the Higher Seminary in Pematang Siantar, North Sumatra. His expertise in Islam is expected to help the Indonesian Bishops Conference.

The bishop has the task of leading a multi-ethnic diocese that is home to thousands of migrants from Java and Bali with their own language and culture.
