Salzburg an example of religious co-existence: Visiting priest
Father Bonnie Mendes

Father Bonnie Mendes, the former executive secretary of the Justice and Peace Commission who recently visited Salzburg, has appreciated the integration of different cultures in Austria’s elementary schools.

"I participated as a speaker at a meeting in elementary school and it was impressive to see that the majority of 150 children were Muslim. The school had children from 37 different countries, each with a different mother tongue.” The Pakistani priest in the frontline of the battle to end religious violence in his country expressed appreciation for the coexistence nurtured from the outset in schools in Austria.

He spoke of the renewed hope in the Church, the charisma of the pontificate of Pope Francis and the deep desire of the faithful for reconciliation to end the divisions between Catholics and Protestants.
