Two years on, no progress in Father Tentorio’s murder probe

Two years after the death of PIME missionary Father Fausto Tentorio, investigations into the murder case has not made any progress, said Bishop Romulo de la Cruz of Kidapawan on the anniversary of the missionary’s death on October 17.

Father Tentorio was murdered at his parish in Arakan in the province of North Cotabato on the troubled island of Mindanao.

"We continue to pray and hope," said the Bishop. The memorial mass was attended by over a thousand people, including parishioners, indigenous people, activist groups and human rights associations.

Father Fausto’s confrere, Father Peter Geremia, is convinced that someone was trying to block or deflect investigations. He raised suspicions about the paramilitary groups that patrol the area.

"We continue to defy a system of impunity and a system of corruption", said the missionary, explaining that his commitment "is for Father Fausto and also for the other victims of extra-judicial executions".

Father Tentorio was known for his work to raise awareness and development among indigenous peoples. He was active with the defence of human rights and environmental protection.
